Group marketing of beans

To market their products together as a group is an important part of Empowered Voices' strategy to improve the livelihoods of their members. Our local project manager, Julie Matovu, has been training the group on this topic, giving them guidance on how to purchase important equipments (like weighing scales and moisture meter) and introducing them to buyers.

Above is Milly Katongole. On the bike she has part of her harvest from last season. The men and women that are part of the bean project come together to weigh and evaluate the season's harvest and discuss the selling strategy. When they sell together as a group instead of individually they have much more power to negotiate prices and timing of their sales. In the future we hope to support them with a truck so it's easier to gather the harvest and bring it to market.
