The women has taken the initiative to start an agriculture project to increase their production of crops. They have been practising subsistence farming, but with the help of an agriculturalist from Kampala we hope the women will be able to produce also for sale. Julie Matovu is running a consultant business for sustainable agriculture in Kampala and she visited the village in August. They have started the project by planting beans. We have given funds to invest in good seeds and a sustainable non-chemical pesticide called neem. The beans have been planted and are now growing. Julie will give the women training in how to apply the neem if the pest shows up. The crops will give much needed food and hopefully also some extra that the women can sell at the local market. We will keep you posted on the progress of this newly started project!
